Community Programs

We have adopted sustainable business practices to ensure we are a welcome member of our communities. We are committed to maximising the positive outcomes of our operations for our people, our host communities and our host nation.

Community Programs Overview

Base Titanium engages with its local communities in a structured and inclusive manner.

We understand that achieving our long-term goals is reliant on building beneficial relationships with the communities in which we operate and establishing a balanced flow of mutual benefit.

Across our operations we have established local committees to encourage meaningful engagement between us, community members and different levels of government. Through engagement with these committees, community development priorities have been identified and are centered on the four key pillars:

  • Community Infrastructure
  • Livelihood Programs
  • Community Health
  • Education

Livelihood Programs

We strive to ensure that the positive economic impact of our operations are felt far beyond our employees.

We support numerous agricultural based livelihood programs, like the Kwale Cotton Project, that are intended to be the engine room for sustainable community development, outlasting the life of the mine.

Community Health

We partner with communities, governments and NGOs to improve access to health services.

This has included providing much needed health infrastructure such as dispensaries and regional clinics to nearby communities as well as training volunteers to provide important healthcare education.

Education

Providing secondary and tertiary scholarships to youth in need.

The Pepea scholarship program covers tuition fees for high school or tertiary education and is designed to give opportunities to academically gifted students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Beneficiaries are selected through a rigorous vetting process that assures transparency and equity.

Community Infrastructure

Establishing infrastructure to improve standards of living.

We work with governments and communities to identify physical infrastructure that will improve living standards such as health facilities, boreholes to improve access to clean water, and the construction of new primary and secondary schools.
